Disturbing the Dust

So, when last we left our intrepid band of adventurers, we had survived the zombie attack and started trying to regroup.

Everyone managed to gather together at the inn and we decided to gather what few weapons we had and begin to route the evil from the town. Of course, we split up during this process and more harm came to us. Peotr was struck down by an unknown assailant, which caused Bernardo to cry for assistance. Tyro and father Brushin (now awake again) went charging to his aid as Bernardo fled from the strange fiend. When the 2 groups met up, the fiend was nowhere to be seen, so we rushed back to look for Peotr and saw a strange bug-eyed, deathly pale being crouched over him. Tyro charged forward and knocked the creature unconscious with a single blow. Unfortunately it turned out to be Luke, the orphan boy that we were supposed to be protecting. Everyone was healed and we all rejoiced (yay! yay!)

During this time, Kelios was trying to maintain her stealth by hiding in a tree awaiting our return. Which, of course, meant that the strange assailant was able to sneak up beside her and stab her. She managed to leap from the tree and run, screaming, back to the inn. Once again, the
assailant escaped unseen. At this point we realized that we were in desperate need of rest. We retired to the barn and barricaded ourselves inside. We figured that the rope on the second floor would provide an adequate means of escape. We were unable to convince the constable to join us, as he was intent on talking with some of the townsfolk. He wandered off into the town alone. the night in the barn was surprisingly restful. A single zombie came scratching at the door and was quickly dispatched by the magic of Peotr. A single cry of anguish was heard nearby during the night, but there was little we could do. And a small squad of zombies shuffled past the barn during the early morning.

After emerging from the barn in the morning (unharmed...there was much rejoicing yay! yay!), it was noticed that the zombies had not been inactive during the night. The corpses of Dunkin (the merchant) and the innkeeper were found to have gone missing from the inn. Although it is possible that the bodies were dragged away, we decided that it would be wise to disassemble the zombie that Peotr dispatched during the night. Upon traveling to the church it was found that the back door of the church was caved in, suggesting that something smashed in the door and freed the zombies. We cleaned up the church and rung the bell, summoning the townsfolk. Although we tried to organize them into fighting the evil, they decided to lock themselves into their homes and let the evil pass them by. We were happy to see that at least some of the townsfolk had survived the night, so once again, there was much rejoicing (yay! yay!)

While Kelios and the father stayed at the church, the rest of us explored the town. Many interesting things were found.
- All of the homes on the outskirts of town had been throughly looted by the zombies, although what they are looking for is still unknown.
- Something terrible happened inside the home of the constable. There was blood splattered everywhere, and small bits of liquorish were found. The candy seemed to throw suspicion on the local smith, although this was only an idea.
- The graveyard was lightly explored and the gate to the yard was bound with a heavy chain and locked. Although we are hopeful that this will keep the evil within the yard, we know it is a lost hope.
- We managed to gather some meager supplies for free. There was much rejoicing (yay! yay!)
- A burnt corpse was found outside of one of the buildings. It was the only dead being that has been found thus far. It almost appears that the zombies carry off their dead...or that the corpses reanimate after some time.

Kelios, after cooking us some lunch (there was much rejoicing yay! yay!), encountered the local crazy hermit (who lived in town, so maybe hermit is a bad title....umm, err....and there was much rejoicing yay! yay!). The hermit invited her inside and started telling her a tale about about bodies that had been dumped in the swamp and was showing her the book of swamp cults. He offered her a piece of liquorish and there was much rejoicing (yay! yay!).
