Toys R Us

How does one describe the sensation of awaking and realizing you have been diminished? Perhaps if you had spent some time among the giants you would have a point of reference. No? Oh well, I will try to impart my experiences anyhow.

As I surveyed the toy story, with the floor so far below us I was able to see Kelios, with her new hideous clown face cringing within her cage. Peotr seemed to be faring better, already working his way at the huge piece of wire that served as the lock on his cage. Thorn was wielding her puppet axe in an attempt to chop her way free of her cage. I seemed to have been doubly cursed as my new form was soft, as that of a stuffed doll, while my companions had the form of the wooden marionettes that we had seen earlier. We could not see Bernard, although several empty cages suggested that someone was prepared for his arrival. Peotr had just unlocked his cage when we hard someone coming towards the door. We adopted an air of innocence as Bernard came through holding another puppet. However, we only had to lay eyes upon them to realize that Bernard had suffered our fate and become trapped as well. As the beast moved towards an empty cage Kelios and Thorn started harassing it. It was obvious that the beast was not equipped for such a battle of words. It became enrage and took it's anger upon Bernard's puppet form, breaking him in half. The beast locked him in a cage and shuffled out. We wasted no time freeing ourselves. Kelios was able to pick her lock and climb into the rafters and down onto a shelf. The puppet show must have had a huge effect on Peotr as he tried to swing from a string and ended up crashing into the floor. I was able to chew my way through the bars and fall into a crate of wadding. Thorn was able to force open the door on her cage and started trying to rock her cage enough so that she could jump onto another cage. As Peotr and I performed a quick search Kelios was pushed from the shelf by another toy that suddenly animated and attacked her. Looking back upon that, we should have taken more notice and taken it as the warning that it was. With the help of Kelios we were able to move a piece of cloth under the cage of Thorn and pull it taunt. It was quick easy for us to catch Thorn and eventually Bernard as they leapt from their cages. Their was one benefit of these new forms, it was quite easy for us to 'heal' ourselves. The pot of glue that we had found under the cloth proved quite valuable as we reattached the small bits that had broken off during the various falls.

We now started to survey our prison. The shear size of the place rattled our brains. We had to constantly remind ourselves that the table was but 4 feet high...not the 30 feet that it seemed to tower above us. We started to examine the shelves, looking for anything that we could us to escape, any hint that might be given about how to reverse the process that had forced us into these strange forms. Perhaps if we had watched Kelios more closely we would have been prepared for the savage attacks that happened, but that was not our fate.

As Thorn was moving along one of the shelves, a jack-in-the-box open and a hideous clawed beast popped out and carved deep gouges in her wooden form. We immediately moved in to put an end to the evil beast. But such distances that we had to cover! It was as if we were running across town. It seemed an almost hopeless task. But we were ingenious. Peotr and I had spent some time lashing the pot of glue to a roller skate and used it as a wagon....a wagon of JUSTICE! We raced along the floor at dizzying speeds. Unfortunately we had forgotten to calculate how we would stop. As we rammed the shelf, I leapt from the back and landed upon the shelf, on feet away from Thorn. Peotr pulled himself off of the board he was wrapped around and started to climb towards us. But Jack was not alone in his hatred of us; 2 pairs of darts flew off of the shelves and spun through the sky, like strange wooden birds. We managed to push jack off of the shelf before the darts rushed into us. I was able to bite some of them in half and Bernard, after putting the finishing blow to Jack tried to hold the last to the ground. It was then that I learned another added benefit to my new form. As I started to climb down, I tripped over something and plunged towards the floor...only to land with a soft thump and no damage. I had no fear of heights while I was in this form. A few quick blows managed to finish off the last of the darts, but at what cost? We found the form of Thorn, broken and in pieces. She had fallen from the shelf and broken into many pieces. But she seemed to still be alive, if it could be called that. We gathered as many pieces as we could find and re-assembled the puzzle that was her new form. Amazingly, as we re-attached the pieces they started to function! It seemed that we were near invincible! As long as we had a supply of glue we could repair any wound. Or so we though.

We had found a book upon the table that indicated that for us to reclaim our bodies, we must stab them in the neck with a silver pin, just as the puppets had done to us. We were able to spy a jar of pins on a shelf and I rushed to recover them. Kelios then proved her bravery to us all. Knowing that we would have to exit out the door, she fearlessly moved towards the door, fully aware that there would be at least one puppet guarding the exit. She showed no fear and started to work on opening the lock. As she stood there, contemplating the lock, a toy dragon took flight from a shelf and winged it's way towards her. I was almost to the pins and allowed her to defend herself. But then we knew terror...the dragon opened it's mouth and wreathed her in flames! What kind of fool creates a child's toy that actually breaths flames?!?! We breathed a sigh of relief when she emerged from the flames, one side burned away, but still moving. I had a evil premonition that if our puppet bodies were consumed by flame we would truly die. Although I wish to meet the mighty Ezra, I hoped that my meeting was not that day. I grabbed the pins, but was shocked to find that they were not the silver ones that we had hoped to find. Still, we had hope that they would serve a purpose, I grabbed the jar and launched myself from the shelf, landing with a thud and no other damage. By this time, Kelios had managed to get into combat with 3 other puppets and a kite....this was truly a strange place. I moved towards Kelios keeping to cover, away from the dragon, just as everyone else was wisely doing. I saw Kelios broken into pieces just before I grabbed ahold of the kite. As I struggled with the kite I could see Thorn and Peotr struggling with the other puppets and Bernard fly by on the dragon's back. He had managed to stab it with some tool and now seemed to be hanging on for dear life. I could not contemplate my friends predicament, however, as the kite lifted into the air, taking me with it. The toy and I struggled and I spied the fireplace moving closer to us. The kite meant to immolate us both! I laid a vicious biting into it and leapt for my life. I managed to land up the mantle just as the kite crashed into the flames and exploded. I could see everyone embroiled in battle, but I could not see the dragon anywhere. As I moved along the mantle, I encountered a jug of water and had an epiphany! A wet toy will not burn! I doused myself with water and leapt off of of the mantle and started searching for the dragon. Bernard emerged from under the table, claiming victory over the dragon. The other puppets quickly feel to our superior skill.

We were able to glue Kelios back together, although the burnt bits could not be repaired. After some time spent drying me out and gathering our tools, we managed to open the door and struck out into the night. We assumed that if we needed silver pins that we should head to the silver smiths. But even our tiny forms could not hide us that night. A child managed to spot Kelios and picked her up with a cry of 'mr. hugabunch'! I am starting to have suspicions that my cousin is not the upstanding person that I once thought, for she stabbed the child and caused her to run off in tears. She was now free, but I still worry for her soul. Perhaps the strain of the transformation has gotten to her. We made it to the silver smith and were working the lock when we heard a number of sounds from the darkness. We barely managed to hide ourselves before a row of soldier puppets came marching through the street. We would have to be more careful. Once inside it was an easy job to locate the silver pins we needed. We headed out into the night, certain that our bodies would be easy to locate.

We had only gone a few more steps when we heard the growl of a dog from the shadows. You laugh now, but remember, in our forms, this dog stood three times our height and could easily crush us with it's jaws. We managed to use the pins that we had and actually paralyze the mutt. The silver pins worked just as we had expected. The brass ones we had gathered earlier had worked as well, as long as we held on to them. But we had forgotten that the pins must stay in to be effective. Kelios was examining the dog when it snapped it's jaws over her and ran into the night. I gave chase, but it easily outdistanced me. I can only hope that she had the presence of mind to keep a pin stuck in the dogs mouth.

We had no choice but to continue on without her. We could help her once we had recovered our bodies. Along the way to the inn we passed by the theater, where we spied most of the children, laughing at an ongoing puppet show. We considered trying to fight the many puppet guards, but chose discretion this time. As we got nearer the inn, we spied a great number of people, quite obviously drunk and enjoying themselves in ways that are inappropriate to relate. We skirted around the building and started to set up an ambush near the outhouses. As we waited and debated out options I noticed a grate that led into the cellar. I climbed in and investigated and saw the most hideous sight that I have ever encountered. I hope to face a thousand demons rather than see that sight again. Never again do I wish to see the body of Peotr naked. And never again do I wish to see him doing such things with what I think was a lady. However this did give us an opportunity. Peotr would be able to recover his body. We tied a rope around him and let him move towards himself. The plan was simple, as soon as he had repossessed his body, we would pull the puppet body back and restrain it. Thorn, Bernard and myself stood by the rope and waited his signal. But then the door opened and I saw my body stumble out of the inn and towards the outhouse. I could not pass up such an opportunity. I left my companions and rushed to my body. It was easy to sneak up upon myself and I stabbed the pin into my neck.

Blackness swam around me.....I knew nothing.
